Dr. James Robinson, DVM
Dr. James Robinson grew up in a small town in southern Alabama. He attended Patrick Henry Jr. College and then Auburn University before graduating from Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1976. He worked for three years in Nashville, TN, before moving to Bristol and then to Johnson City to join Mountain Empire Animal Hospital, where he was a partner for eleven years. Robinson Animal Hospital was started in 1992 and has grown from a one-doctor, one-hospital organization to a multiple-doctor, three-hospital organization with locations in Johnson City and Gray. Dr. Robinson enjoyed all aspects of small animal veterinary medicine but had special interests in surgery, dermatology, and internal medicine. Working with the younger veterinarians and educating the staff and clients using his years of hands-on experience made his job fun throughout his entire career.
He always said, “Why would anyone want to be any other kind of doctor besides a veterinarian!? This is the best profession ever!” Dr Robinson had the gift of making every client feel welcome from the time he met them. His charismatic personality welcomed every client uniquely. He had an endless memory bank of hilarious life stories to tell. Dr Robinson was never afraid to try something new and never said no to a pet in need. He said “yes!” when others said “no”. He will never be replaced and always be remembered by those who met him once or knew him a lifetime.
His dream of owning and operating a 24-hour animal hospital was accomplished at the Peoples Street location shortly before he fell ill with cancer. (While we no longer have 24 hour care, we still have pet care 7 days a week for your pet.) Sadly, we lost Dr. Robinson on March 2nd, 2018, after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. Our practice, employees, clients, and entire community mourn the loss of a gifted veterinarian, teacher, and truly fine person. He left us far too soon, but he left a legacy that will live on. We strive to continue his legacy at all of our Robinson Animal locations.

Dr. Pam Kiser, DVM
Dr. Pam Kiser, DVM, was a member of the Robinson Animal Hospital for many years. Her recent passing leaves behind a legacy of exceptional veterinary care and compassion for pets and their owners alike. She left us far too soon and will forever remain in our hearts.

Dr. Kiser was raised in Emporia, VA, but spent every summer of her childhood in the Tri-Cities area, and therefore chose to come home to a place she truly loved. Her parents reside in Erwin, TN, and that was just one more reason she joined us! She had many years of experience in both mixed animal hospitals, after-hours emergency care, and general veterinary care, mostly in various areas of western North Carolina.
When not tending to her patients, Dr. Kiser enjoyed traveling in her camper or tending to her farm in Yancey County, NC.
